2026 May Webinar: Active Kids and Missing Links

This webinar was presented by Dean Ellis, Coordinator, Transport Planning at the City of Wyndham.

Dean has over 20 years’ experience as a strategic planner with 19 years as Wyndham’s Coordinator Transport Planning. This includes extensive involvement in the development of 14 Precinct Structure Plans, planning of the Regional Rail Link Corridor, the Western Roads Upgrade project, 4 Level Crossing Removals, and other western region shaping transport projects. The Transport Planning team is currently refreshing Wyndham’s Active Transport Strategy, planning and delivering shared paths, and has an Active Travel to School program. The growth and challenges that Wyndham continues to experience, along with the variety of projects that pop up regularly, means there is never a dull moment in this job.

Dean described the many components of active transport programs for schools in Wyndham.  The key to success is having supportive school principals and champions among teachers and students.  The program of missing links for active transport is an ongoing challenge.  Dean provided some good advice for adding footpaths, joining bicycle paths and shared paths within the suburbs created over the last few decades.
