This popular webinar was held on 3 June 2025. The presenters gave an overview of contemporary practice in the fast-evolving world of road safety barriers, including current roadside risk assessment methodologies, including the shift from traditional ‘Clear Zone’ theory to the Network Roadside Risk Intervention Threshold (NRRIT) now adopted in Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. They also discussed corridor-based approaches to managing lane departure risk, reviewed recent design and product innovations, and unpacked some of the common challenges faced in barrier design and implementation.
Phil Rosser is a Specialist Engineer with the Department of Transport and Planning (Victoria) who has over 20 years experience in road design. Phil has worked as a road designer in NSW and WA and now focuses on developing road design guidance and providing technical advice to projects.
Jamie Robertson is the Technical Lead at Safe System Solutions, following his previous role as Technical Lead for Traffic Engineering and Design at VicRoads. He is an international expert in roadside barriers, having delivered projects for Austroads, state road agencies and local governments. Jamie leads the Safe System Solutions Road Safety Barrier training course and is an ASHTAS-licensed Barrier Operative.
Webinar Facilitator: Kenn Beer is a registered engineer with over 20 years of experience in state government and private consultancy. He leads a range of Safe System Solutions technical training courses, including Safe System Assessments, Road Safety Audits, Raised Crossing Design, and Making Roads Motorcycle Friendly. Kenn is also an ASHTAS-licensed Barrier Operative and Installer.
