Special Guest Speaker: Eric Rensel – Chair, ITE Council Leadership Team
Eric outlined the role of the ITE Councils and how the involvement of Australian and New Zealand transport professionals can provide benefits across both sides of the Pacific.
Eric started his journey with ITE as the local arrangements chair for the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area of ITE’s Mid-Atlantic Section in 2001, eventually rising to MASITE President. In 2011, Eric joined ITE’s Operations and Intelligent Transportation Systems Council as a member, eventually rising to Council Chair. At the conclusion of his time as Council Chair, Eric was selected by the International Board of Direction to become the Council Leadership Team Vice Chair, rising to his current role as Chair. In total, Eric has been involved with ITE Councils for 12 years. Eric is also a member of ITE’s International Board of Direction. Working with ITE Headquarters staff and the Council Leadership Team Vice Chairs, Eric helps lead and coordinate 24 different groups associated with developing technical content.
For his day job, Eric serves as a Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for Gannett Fleming. He leads the firm’s Managed Services Division, which includes freeway traffic management centers, arterial operations centers, landside air operations centers, and customer service centers. Eric also helps lead Gannett Fleming’s strategic advisory services. Eric has helped clients across the United States, as well as in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, implement traffic incident management, intelligent transportation systems strategies, and traffic management centers. Throughout his career, Eric has gained knowledge in preliminary and final roadway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and traffic incident management. Eric is a driver of innovation as a member of the leadership team for the Collaborative Research and Innovation Center, the firm’s incubator for new products and services.
